The Town of High Prairie is a thriving community of about 3000 people. They know the advantages of living in a modern urban community surrounded by golden prairie, lush forests and numerous lakes. Only a 20-minute drive from Lesser Slave Lake, High Prairie is an ideal family holiday destination and one of Alberta's best recreational playgrounds. With sandy beaches Lessor Slave Lake is excellent for boating, fishing, sailing and windsurfing. Close to High Prairie are two Provincial parks, Hillards Bay and Winagami Lake.
From the early days of fur trading, to the days when waves of Europeans came to the area seeking land to farm, the High Prairie area has always been considered hospitable and welcoming. The same is true today. The Town of High Prairie acts as a service center to the agricultural, forest and oilfield industries.
High Prairie has numerous recreational facilities, supports a variety of recreational activities and programs and is situated close to natural attractions.
Today, High Prairie has a population just over 2,500 people and it's land mass covers just over 6 square kilometers.
